Finals are getting closer

Final exams and projects are getting closer and closer. The semester is drawing to a close and it’s time to finish up. For the last few semesters, I have created daily schedules of what to do and when to do it. I just want to be prepared for all of my classes and get good grades on my tests/projects. I’m ready for the semester to be over so I can go back to Savannah and be there for a month instead of just a couple of days!

Internship opp

Last week, I turned in an internship packet to the Virginian-Pilot. I know that I met the managing editor during our school’s Associated Press Sports Editors Conference. But I’m nervous about whether I made a good impression or not. But hopefully she will help me out and I will get the opportunity of a lifetime. It would definitely help me with my career later on in life.

Big Apple Classic

For the last few years, the basketball teams have participated in the Big Apple Classic. It’s the annual game against Howard University at Madison Square Garden. The pep band always gets the opportunity to go and support the team during the game. Hopefully, I will get a chance to travel and perform at this great place.

When I was home for break, I checked to see how the basketball team has been doing. As of now, they have lost all of their games. I still think this is due to the team continuing to deal with the loss of Theo Smalling.

I knew that I was going to be excited about going home for Thanksgiving break. But I really had a lot of fun. I was out late with my brother, cousin, and my cousin’s friend. We visited River Street, went skating, and bowling. I enjoyed being with my family and seeing my friends.

Thanksgiving break has finally arrived! I can’t wait to get home on Tuesday night! I have been slaving at school since August. At that point, I was on campus to help with band camp. Since I’m assistant section leader, I had to come a week earlier to help get the freshmen together so that they could learn all the new skills and techniques. Then school started in September. There was a very long football season up until yesterday. I did get a chance to sneak and go home at the end of last month. But it was only for a couple of days and I didn’t do much. This break is very significant because I can relax and take a break from everything.

For years I’ve noticed that as the semester draws to a close, teaches give the most work to students. It’s almost like they dump all the work on us at the very end. The end of the semester is supposed to be time for students to wind down and relieve some stress from the weeks before. But unfortunately, some teachers think that their class is the only one that exists. That really bothers me!

Pirates end with losing season

The HU football team ended their season 5-6 with their loss against Morgan State. It seemed that there was hope for the team after all when they defeated former HU coach Joe Taylor and the FAMU Rattlers last weekend. But there were many mistakes made and they were unable to follow through with a lot of the plays. Things will probably get better next year.

Women’s team fired up

Last Thursday, the women’s basketball team played their first home game of the season. They play the Tribe of William and Mary. The ladies were victorious in their 71-66 win. They are playing again today at the Convocation Center again VCU. Hopefully, they will pull off another win.

Men’s bball team in a slump

I don’t know what’s going on right now. But our men’s basketball team is suffering tremendously! They lost their game last Saturday to LaSalle. Then on Tuesday, they lost to Iona. To me, it seems that they are still mourning their team mate and friend, Theo Smalling. I noticed that they made sure that spectators had shirts that said “12″ on the front and “Smalling” on the back. They even introduced him like he was coming out to play. I understand honoring him at games. But this can be distracting and damaging to the team’s morale. Theo wants them to do good this season and they have to honor that wish.
